Act 1998
Organisations and individuals within organisations
have a duty of care obligation to ensure
that the confidential data they hold is
not released in an unauthorised or accidental
way, particularly that relating to employees
or customers. This includes storage media
such as hard disk drives.Non-compliance
can lead to heavy fines, compensation
for individuals whom have suffered unauthorised
disclosure of confidential data (section
13 DPA 99), and brand damaging media exposure.Software
licensing also usually prohibits resale,
therefore IT equipment must be eradicated
of all licensed software.To ensure complete
security and peace of mind for our clients,
INFOTREK SYSCOM's data security processes for confidential
disposal and data erasure form part of
our international quality management standard,
ISO 9001:2000 certification.INFOTREK SYSCOM is registered
in accordance with the requirements of
the UK Data Protection Act 1998.INFOTREK SYSCOM uses
specialist data overwriting and disk formatting
software. A check is also carried out
to ensure the drive has been properly
overwritten and a text file created that
affirms the data has been eradicated by
INFOTREK SYSCOM.Hard Drives that are faulty or cannot
be wiped of data are physically impaired
rendering the unit inoperable prior to
recycling through an approved process.
